2024 – LIBROS & Santa Fe Book Arts Group – “Anything Goes”

July 4 – 13, 2024

Location: Tortuga Gallery, 901 Edith Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.

This show is open to Members in Good Standing Only. This is a collaborative show and any member from either group is encouraged to enter.

The deadline to submit application, photo and NON-REFUNDABLE $5 fee per piece is May 15, 2024. Each piece entered must be submitted with its own application, photo and $5 fee. Any type of artwork that is made by Libros/SF BAG member is allowed, not just book making. All entries will be reviewed by jury for appropriateness and size (due to space). There is no commission fee taken on the sale of any artwork, all sales will go directly to the artist.

In addition to works of art by members, we will allow some selling of materials such as hand made cards, hand mixed paints or dyes, or handmade papers or packets of interesting ephemera, papers, etc. This will be considered a vendor application. All materials must have professional looking packaging. Each artist wanting to sell materials will pay a $25 entry fee with no commission taken out for sold items. Each application must have an inventory sheet of items to be sold attached to application. More details in theShow Info PDF above.

Celebration of the Book Exhibit

Santa Fe Community College’s Visual Arts Gallery opens the art exhibition Celebration of the Book, which features contemporary book art, with a free reception with refreshments from 4 pm to 6 pm on Thursday, February 15, 2024. The exhibition continues through Friday, March 22.

All the artists represented in the exhibition are members of the Santa Fe Book Arts Group or LIBROS New Mexico Book Arts Guild. They use a wide range of materials, designs, and techniques to create original works of sculptural, two-dimensional, or multi-dimensional book art.

Director of Art on Campus Linda Cassel said, “SFCC is thrilled to host the final event for the Celebration of the Book. This will give everyone an opportunity to see the full exhibition and to meet the artists who have enriched our community. SFCC has a strong Printmaking and Book Arts program, where many of the featured artists developed their talents.”

The SFCC Visual Arts Gallery is at 6401 Richards Avenue, Santa Fe, NM, and is open 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday.

“The Handmade Book”

The 2017 Annual Member Show of handmade and artist books is being held at the Albuquerque/ Bernalillo County Libraries at the Main Library, Second Floor, 5th & Coppier (501 Copper Ave NW), Albuquerque, NM.

We had a FREE hands-on bookmaking demonstration for the public during the show.

The 2013 Annual Member Show of handmade and artist books was held at the Main Library, 501 Copper NW, Downtown Albuquerque, NM. It included free demonstrations where visitors could make their own Album of Photo Postcards to take home, along with demonstration of hands-on bookmaking. A selection of entries is shown above.

“Journeys: Inner and Outer” – An Exhibit of Handmade Artists’ Books

The theme for the 2012 LIBROS annual show was Journeys: Inner and Outer. This exhibit celebrated the wonderful books created by LIBROS members from Life’s Journeys – out in the great wide world or inside their own psyche.

Mesa Public Library, Los Alamos

LIBROS again had the opportunity to show at the Mesa Public Library Art Gallery in Los Alamos in 2011. (We will not have a show in 2012 at Los Alamos.)

There was also a display of letterpress printed poetry broadsides by Tom Leech of the Palace of the Governors Press.

2011 Annual Members Exhibit

LIBROS held its annual members exhibit at the Albuquerque Main Public Library in downtown Albuquerque during April and May 2011. The theme was Wordplay

The Accordion Book: Variations on a Theme was the title of our 2010 annual members exhibit at the Albuquerque Main Public Library. We featured all the different ways that the accordion book is designed.
